Supreme Court Dismisses Justice Yashwant Varma’s Plea Challenging CJI’s Recommendation for Removal
The Supreme Court of India recently dismissed the petition filed by Justice Yashwant Varma of the Allahabad High Court, who challenged the Chief Justice of India's (CJI) recommendation for his removal. This recommendation followed the discovery of a large amount of unaccounted cash at his official residence. The inquiry’s critical findings became the basis for recommending Justice Varma's removal, highlighting the judiciary’s commitment to self-regulation and probity.
The Supreme Court examined six key legal issues surrounding the in-house inquiry’s constitutionality and procedural aspects.
